As big fans of colour and pattern, our clients wanted their country house in Devon to be reflective of life as a young family; bold, joyful, but also restful.
We took inspiration from their extensive art collection, echoing colours and shapes with one-off furniture pieces, such as blue velvet armchairs with layered fringing in the hallway, a bubble gum pink island in the kitchen, and a hanging wicker egg chair in the living room. In the case of the master bedroom, we extended the artwork itself, adding decorative porcelain birds across the wall, leading the eye to a vast sculptural tub in the luxurious bathroom, which looks out over the grounds.
Our clients love music, so we designed bespoke shallow ledges, lit with discreet LEDs to display some of their favourite vinyl. It makes the wall look like a record shop, adding colour and interest, is a great conversation starter and is easy to update the collection to create a fresh new look as required.
We added plenty of glamour throughout, including a bespoke bar in the living room, for the owners and their guests to enjoy. The combination of dark wood with detailed brass fretwork and antiqued mirrors against a statement wallpaper backdrop ensure a decadent and luxurious feel to drinks at home.
With the adults well catered for, we also created a dedicated den for the kids and teenagers, complete with neon sign, gaming stations, squidgy sofa, and a very large disco ball.
In keeping with its leafy location, we painted many of the Georgian windows a dark teal to enhance the view beyond, decorated the walls in linen for texture and depth and didn’t miss an opportunity to inject a sense of fun, with touches from pom-pom edged cushions to colour-pop tiling, fabrics, and statement ceiling mural.
