With the studio and showroom in the very safe hands of Colleen, Fiona and the team, Nick and John headed this month to the warmer climes of Thailand and got to realise their long-held aim of visiting the home of Jim Thompson. As you’d expect from the man who was credited for single-handedly revitalising Thailand’s dying silk industry, the house was an inspiring treasure trove of stunning pieces offset by bold-coloured fabrics.
Sadly, Jim Thompson famously disappeared in a cloud of mystery in the Malaysian Cameron Highlands almost fifty years ago, but his silk company is still going strong and keeping his legacy alive. They are also one of the few luxury textile houses that is committed to a silk manufacturing process that is entirely in house, with their own silk farms, mills and design studio. As big fans of their unique designs we are also home a range of Jim Thompson fabric books right here in Bath, so if ever you after a Far-East fix, do pop in for a browse.
Just before heading Asia-bound, John was one of a handful of the city’s interior experts asked by Bath Life for what’s been catching their eye this season. Head to “Brave New World” in this fortnight’s Bath Life for John’s thoughts!
