This year we’ve chosen artwork by Bristol digital artist Chuck Elliot for our Christmas cards. Elliot graduated from the old Hornsey School of Art in London and focuses on using digital drawing tools to create studies that explore line, light, colour and geometry to mesmerising effect. We’ve donated £1 for each of our 100 cards printed to local homeless charity Julian House, whose team are especially busy at this often difficult time of year.

Today was the big day for the inaugural Bath Property Awards for which we had been shortlisted for Best Residential Interior Designer in Bath. We were up against some stiff competition, so were absolutely delighted to find out we’d won the category this afternoon! John and Helena were there to receive the award and enjoyed meeting fellow nominees such as the lovely team at Joel Bugg. Furniture & Spaces. So well done to all the interior design team – John, Helena, Magda, Sandra, Lydia and Rianne. And of course a big thank you to all our wonderful clients for all their support.

It was great too to hear what the judges had to say:

“Distinctive, appealing, high quality work fueling significant expansion and increase turnover – it’s been a great year for Woodhouse and Law.”

As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, we work closely with Bath-based arts and crafts charity Articulate in giving our discontinued fabric books and remnants a new lease of life.
It was lovely to get an update from Karen Woodfield at Articulate recently.

“The fabric supplies have allowed members to continue to develop their skills after the workshop.  We have distributed the fabric to other not for profit or educational organisations including local schools for their textile departments, an after-school group, crafts groups for the elderly and for adults with learning difficulties. We have also been able to support a member who is studying textile degree, who has then taught at our club.  We also have a disabled young member who is using the fabric to help her with developing her skills and a portfolio in preparation for applying to study costume design.  We have another member who makes costumes for a local community theatre group who is using the fabric.  Lastly, Ralph Allen School is starting teaching GCSE Textiles in 2019 and a significant proportion of the fabric from your last donation will form the basis of their textile collection for the students to use. “

It was great to see some of the results recently; from coasters to bags, the results were really inspiring. Keep up the good work Articulate!

Woodhouse and Law October 10th, 2018 News & Ideas

We were very excited to find out earlier today that we have been shortlisted in the Residential Interior Designer category of the Bath Property Awards!

A very big thank you to our wonderful clients who supplied testimonials for our submission. Such as this one from a client for whom we have recently completed a riverside warehouse conversion in London.

“Last year I bought a two-storey warehouse apartment. It had been vacant for some time, and used as a rental property prior to that, so was pretty run down. The estate agents said it had potential, but it was a case of stripping it right back to its external walls and starting again, including electrics, plumbing and shifting floors, walls and ceilings. I knew from the very start that John and his team understood my style and the look I wanted to achieve. They were expert at divining the world of interiors down to a manageable set of options. I expected that, but what really impressed was the diligence as the project progressed, as we discovered what was under raised floors, behind boxing, beneath layers of paint. They were invested at each stage of the project, allowing us to make the most of every opportunity: to rationalise the layout, layer lighting, maximise the space, enhance original features, and, as a result, the apartment now feels cohesive, everything makes sense, as well as looking fabulous! The quality of finish is exceptional. A particular mention must go to Fiona, whose abilities go far beyond her professional accreditation. She has been a constant source of inspiration, and proved adept at problem solving and project managing. It has been a true delight to work with fellow professionals, and now we’re making the most of living in such a beautiful, practical, unique apartment. Even the estate agents didn’t want to leave!”

We have our fingers, and everything else, crossed for the big day on 23rd November!

We’re pleased to announce the opening of our new showroom! So that we can better showcase our products and interior and garden design service, this summer saw an extensive refurbishment to our Bathwick Hill showroom. This work has included broadening our offering from boutique and individual craftspeople locally, to sourcing new and interesting suppliers internationally. Our library of fabric and wallpaper books has also been extended to allow us to provide a greater range of products with a dedicated island space for browsing and meeting.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!

W&L heads to Paris and London!

Woodhouse and Law September 11th, 2018 News & Ideas

John and Sophie have been in Paris for the last few days at the world’s leading interior design show. They’ve assured us they haven’t been spending all their time trying out all the gastronomic delights of the city, but instead have been busy instead sourcing the unusual and the very special for our showroom and clients alike. We can’t wait to see it all arrive here over the coming weeks.Sophie and John have also been keeping us up to date on the latest trends to be found there too; they tell us tribal is going to be big. You heard it here first!

Hot on the heels of Paris, London also beckons with 100% Design and Decorex. Our very own Rianne, Lydia, Magda and Sandra will all be flying the Bath flag at these shows, bringing back the latest trends, innovation and a heap of inspiration!

With the wonderful summer we’ve just had, Nick’s mind has been turning to the Mediterranean for a bit of inspiration for our garden designs right here in Bath. A slightly different approach to garden design from those sunnier climes but achievable with the right materials, and the right balance of form, structure and texture. Think terracotta, dappled shade to protect you from the midday sun, and drifts of hardy, scented rosemary. For more information, head to the latest issue of Bath Life, out today.

As part of our ongoing commitment to help the wonderful community we live and work in, it was great to see works start in approving the allotment facilities at Greenlinks on Monkton Road this week. Earlier this year, we added £1000 to the money so kindly donated by our wonderful clients and this is going into providing easier access to the allotment, run by Bath Mind. A new set of steps and accompanying handrail are currently being installed by the team at Selby Landscapes, who will also be improving the seating area there.  We hope this will be enjoyed for years to come.
