We welcomed two new team members into the Woodhouse & Law fold last month, with Lydia joining us as design assistant and Sandra stepping into the role of junior interior designer. Sandra brings experience from Danish furniture retailer BoConcept, while Lydia impressed us during a recent stint as a freelancer; she’s also completing her interior design diploma alongside her new role. We’re thrilled to have them on board, and for the extra support they bring to our ever-expanding business!
We were delighted today to spot our Mind the Gap wallpaper on one of five covers, for Bath Life magazine’s big 15th anniversary issue, which also included an interiors feature asking local interior designers about the looks they love. John contributed his thoughts on everything from influential designers of the moment to new-season colour palettes, which, if you missed the issue, you can read about, here.
We’re not the only ones honing in on the new season’s fiery palette if our team’s recent trips to Maison et Objet, Paris, 100% Design and Decorex are anything to go by. The stand-out colours felt really autumnal, with shades of ochre, sand, rust, terracotta and olive green taking centre stage. Pink is also still high on the agenda for AW18 and we loved the idea of layering block colours, such as setting a green velvet sofa against a green wall. We noticed a return to opulence with a continued shift to warmer metal tones, particularly gold; trimmings and fringes were seen on everything from lampshades to cushions and sofas; and furniture has continued to embrace all things art deco, especially when it comes to chairs. The team came back inspired and full of new ideas.
Check out the latest issue of Bath Life, for Nick’s feature on local plantswoman Derry Watkins and her stunning garden just outside Bath.
Nick, who heads up the garden design team at W&L, will be writing a regular feature in the title on all things horticultural, be it local gardens, or hints on how to achieve a certain feel and look within your own outdoor space. His next feature, out later next month, will be on the exquisite gardens of Hauser & Worth Somerset, created by renowned garden designer Piet Oudolf.
We’re now back from a busy week at Hampton Court Flower Show! We were very honoured to be asked by Bath Spa University course leader Amanda Goode to work alongside them again on this year’s prestigious RHS show. Our garden design team headed to Hampton Court last week armed with a hand-picked combination of plants from local nurseries and a wealth of props and planters. The aim, to display just a small selection the up and coming talent at our wonderful local university.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Bath’s very own Willow Pottery for the loan of some of their exquisite terracotta planters and to local company Pure Greenhouse for providing the frameless greenhouses to the RHS.
We are hugely pleased to introduce Jody, who joins us as our new Showroom Manager.
With a degree in printed textile design, Jody also a wealth of hands-on experience in the interior design industry, having worked for several well-established interior designers across both commercial and residential projects alike.
Please do pop into our showroom and say hi to our latest team member!
Our last sale was quite some time back now, so we thought it was high time to have a brief sale to make space for all the new stock that is coming in from our recent sourcing trips!
So, as of tomorrow (Saturday 11th) at 10am, there will be up to 50% off a selection of lighting, furniture and accessories.
The sale will run until Friday of next week (17th). Our showroom will be open from 10-4 on Saturday, closed on Sunday and open 9-5 Monday to Friday.
Hope to see you there!
We always look forward to our twice-a-year sourcing trip to Maison et Objet. The show, based in Paris and the largest of its kind, is home to nearly 3000 exhibitors displaying the very latest furniture, lighting and accessories for both the home and the garden. And this January’s offering was probably the best yet; full of inspiring ideas and the latest trends.
This time, it was Colleen, John and Nick’s turn to head to Paris in search of that something different for both specific client projects and for our Spring|Autumn collection in our showroom. We’re really looking forward to sharing our finds with you as they start coming in over the next few weeks!

We absolutely loved fundraising for our chosen charity partners of Bath Food Bank and Hop Skip and Jump over the last two years. So we’re very pleased to announce Bath Mind as our chosen charity for 2017.
We are hugely in awe of the work that this Bath-based charity do in ensuring that anyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for advice and support. Today, our colleague Laura popped down to meet the lovely Hannah at the charity to discuss how we can best help them over the coming months. We’ll be keeping you informed right here of what we’ve got planned very soon!
We were so pleased to find out this week that we had been shortlisted as a finalist in the interiors category of this year’s Bath Life Awards! It’s an honour to be part of an event that celebrates all that’s good in this wonderful city.
Our finalist sticker is proudly displayed in our window and we’ve got our fingers very much crossed for the big night on 23rd February. As always, a very big thank you to all our clients for their ongoing support in our entry for the awards.
